Anyone who knows me understands that I love a good trend. I am all for experimenting with your style. Personal style is limitless...

But wait, doesn't that go against everything that the capsule wardrobe stands for? NO!

You can still indulge in trends, but they should be ones that you feel would be ones you wouldn't mind repeating another season  or even out of season.

For example, in the photo above, are all neutrals. Now, when khakis and tans were huge over the summer, I decided to invest in some items that were "on trend" but were still classic. What's great is that I've had these three items for over a year each...again, investing wisely in pieces you will love to wear over and over again (cue Nathan Sykes).

So, for this Fall 2016, I have selected a few trends that I could create looks from in my own capsule.

Let's get started...

TREND LOOK ONE: The Bomber Jacket, Plaid, and Bucket Bags
Capsule Trends Look 1: The Bomber Jacket, Plaid, and Bucket Bags

The varsity style bomber jacket gives the look a prep-school undertone while the Converse sneakers and leather pants add edge to the look. Add an on-trend item like the bucket bag and you definitely look too cool for school.

TREND LOOK TWO: Bodysuits and Loafers
Capsule Trends Look 2: Bodysuits, Loafers, and Shades of Red

I know not everyone is a fan of the adult version of a onesie, but to me, they are perfect for when you don't want that awkward uneven tuck from a shirt. What's great about this burgundy body is that it incorporates the lace-up trend as well. Paired with a simple black skirt, classic denim jacket, simple studs, and a black bag, the look almost screams girly...until you get to the shoes. A pair of unique loafers (especially with stud details) add a tough edge to the look.

TREND LOOK THREE: Duster Cardigans and Pointy Toe Pumps
Capsule Trends Look 3: Duster Cardigans, Pointy Toe Pumps, and Shades of Blue

I see the duster cardigan being a huge trend for Fall not just because it's cozy, but because you can pretty much wear a cardigan in any weather. I live in Florida and I've already worn mine a few times. Pairing the long cardigan with a shirt skirt allows for a bit more coverage as well as adds drama with the varying lengths. A basic t-shirt serves as a base for the outfit, while adding the pointy toe pumps gives it a bit of sophistication. A blush color choker adds a splash of color without completely throwing off the neutral theme of the outfit.

TREND LOOK FOUR: Shades of Blue and Leather Jackets
Capsule Trends 4: Shades of Blue, Shades of Red, and Leather Jackets

Shades of blue were quite popular during the Fall/Winter 2016 runway shows, but a simple way to incorporate that is to indulge in the denim on denim trend. Typically the key is to have two drastically different denims, but here I've paired a light wash denim skinny jean with a blue was chambray shirt which gives a bit more fluidity. The leather jacket is always a staple for Fall/Winter, and this year is not going to change. Adding the leather jacket and red pumps give the look a smart edge that's appropriate for almost any occasion.

TREND LOOK FIVE: Shades of Red, Plaid, Destroyed Denim, and Lace-Up Shoes
Capsule Trends Look 5: Plaid, Ripped Jeans, Shades of Red, and Lace Up Flats

Four trends in one outfit? That's unheard of! Most fashion experts would drop their Chanel 2.55 if they heard of such a thing. Here's the key to pulling it off: keep it simple. A pair of distresssed denim shorts may seem summery to you, but by pairing it with a red plaid shirt, black lace up flats, and a deep red clutch, you've got a look ready for the daytime brunch life of a fashionista. The statements are made in the plaid shirt and denim shorts, while everything else is kept solid.

I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know, what are your favorite trends for Fall?

Peace, Love, and Happiness!

Hey guys and dolls! So it's been a week since I've posted my actual Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe (if you haven't seen the posts, I will link them at the end). I have to say, despite giving myself plenty of options, there's already been a few hiccups in the process. I knew there would be some changes throughout the month, but did not anticipate them happening within the first week! But not all changes were bad, some dare I say for the better. Let's review...

1) It is sooooo bloody hot in Florida right now! I intended on wearing closed-toe shoes to keep with the Fall theme. However, I have had to bust out my lace up gladiator sandals on quite a few occasions. It's just too hot to give up sandals yet, so I am adding these bad boys to my capsule and taking out my leopard print booties for now

2) The bucket bag is a bust. So my beloved Liz Claiborne bucket bag has a hole at the bottom of the bag. Needless to say, I don't know whether I will have it repaired or if I will call it a bust and give it away. The bucket bag is on trend, and having it in black is pretty handy, especially when going to concerts or being at amusement parks. But the bag has exhausted its cost per wear and I think it is just time to say goodbye. If you live in the Tampa Bay area and know of a business that repairs handbags, please let me know!

3) The casual black dress has been replaced. My Cotton On black t-shirt dress had to be replaced. The dress has shrunken over time and is now waaaayyyyy too short for me to wear as just a dress. So, on a recent shopping trip, I purchased this gorgeous black dress with lace inset on the back from Aeropostale. The one in my local mall is closing and having a "everything must go" sale. I purchased the dress for $27.65 as opposed to $39.50. You can still purchase the dress here.

4) The burgundy bodysuit? Also replaced. Let me tell you what happened with this bodysuit from Rue21. I ordered it online (mistake number 1) and picked it up in store WITHOUT trying it on, even after the sales associate advised I do so. I went home, tried it on and this is what happened:

My boobs looked bigger than they ever have before, and not in a good way. Also, you can't see it in the picture, but the bottom of my bra is exposed through the keyhole....what a bummer! So, I went to Rue21 and exchanged it for a ribbed, lace-up burgundy bodysuit with short sleeves, similar to the one below, but from their plus size range. Needless to say, a much better fit and look.

Though my first week of capsule wardrobing has been a bit weird, I have to say I am loving how easy it is to get dressed in the morning, as well as how creative I can be with my outfits. I am still hoping to narrow down my closet even more, but it's going to take time. If you're currently on the journey towards minimalism, feel free to share any tips and tricks you have below.

Thanks for reading and I'll catch you later!

THE FALL 2016 CAPSULE WARDROBE PROCESS

New Job Look 1

Hello everybody! The day has finally arrived! This is the final installment of the four-part Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe series. My main goal was to show you how I do the process by hand, so going forward, when I'm discussing these elements, they will make a bit more sense.

Monday, September 5, 2016

Hola/Hello! Happy Labor Day! Hope everyone had a great week and weekend so far. Mine has consisted of voting, hurricanes, flooding, work, and a little love life action. But I digress.

Today is Part 3 of a four-part series for my Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe. If you're wondering how I started, I will link all of the parts at the bottom of this post.  The sections that we will be discussing today are my go-to pieces and go-to outfits.

One of the benefits to a capsule wardrobe is that it allows you to really see what kind of pieces you go for. So many blogs and websites tell you to own a black skirt, but not everyone loves the same black pencil skirt. Some like a full skirt, maybe a-line, even maxi skirts are there for the picking. Every woman may own a black skirt, but your personal style determines what kind is essential to you.

Once you know your go-to pieces, you can then think of easy outfit formulas that make you feel amazing and reflect your style. By having these formulas, when you're in a rush and are unsure of what to wear, you can look to the formulas and save so much time by not over-thinking it. Not to mention, it's great to see how your go-to pieces can work together and create a multitude of outfits. One thing to remember is that you can intermix your go-to pieces beyond the formulas created. They only serve as a base to support you when you're unsure of what to wear.

Below is a list of my go-to pieces for Fall and formulas I have created from them.*

GO-TO PIECES: When it comes to my go-to pieces, I find that I need versatility from work to chill days. Though my work wardrobe has become much more casual, I still like to have a tailored or formal undertone to them. I find that I gravitate to a blend of structured pieces as well as breezy ones. My go-to items include

GO-TO OUTFITS: Figuring out my go-to outfits was a breeze once I figured out which formulas served which purposes. The first three formulas listed are for work, since I spend most of my time working. My fourth and sixth formula are for special occasions/date nights/events. The fifth formula is my weekend attire, which will pretty much be the same unless it is cold (which means I would switch to jeans/pants). Below is a clear list of my outfit formulas:

1) Button Front Shirt + Skinny Jeans/Pants + Minimalist Heels/Loafers

2) Lightweight Jacket/Cardi + Easy Dress + Ankle Boots

3) Smart Jacket + Soft T-Shirt + Ankle Pants/Skinny Pants + Loafers

4) Feminine Blouse/Top + Pencil Skirt + Minimalist Heels/Statement Shoes

5) Soft T-Shirt + Mid-Thigh Shorts + Low-Top Sneakers

6) Smart Jacket + Soft T-Shirt + Mid-Thigh Shorts + Statement Shoes/Minimalist Heels

We are almost to the end of the series! Check back tomorrow for the last installment of the Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe series which will feature the final items chosen for my capsule. If you want to check out Part 1 and 2, they are linked below. Feel free to comment below if you have any questions about the capsule wardrobe planning I am doing as well as any resources you may have if you're doing it as well!

Hey Hey Hey!

First I want to say thank you for checking out my blog. It's a work in progress but I hope you will continue to check it out from time to time.

As the title states, this is Part Two of a Four-Part Introduction into my Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe. If you missed Part One, you can check out that post here.

In Part Two, we are going to talk about brands and colors. Knowing which brands you love and the color palette you want for your capsule wardrobe makes shoping for missing pieces so much easier. Another great thing about knowing your favorite brands and developing a color palette it that the items essentially will be interchangeable and coordinate with each other.

Below you will find my handwritten capsule wardrobe planner* page dedicated to brands and colors.

BRANDS: Narrowing down the brands I loved was vital to the development of my capsule wardrobe. Not only did it allow me to see whether I was purchasing items of good quality, but it also made shopping for additional pieces much easier. By knowing which brands I loved, I had a list of resources for shopping for future capsule wardrobes. The brands I love are:

COLORS: If you've been following my blog for some time now, you know that I love color. I adore every shade in the rainbow...visually. However, as I've grown into my own personal style, I've realized that I always lean towards neutrals. Being that I am now on a minimalist journey, I had to figure out what colors not only please me but will coordinate well together and maximize my outfit producing potential. After analyzing my closet and daily activities, I settled on the following colors for Fall...

Now that I've gone over the brands and color palette for my capsule, the next thing we will go over are the go-to pieces and outfits created from those pieces.

Stay tuned for the next post!

Saturday, August 27, 2016

Well, it's been six months since my last post. I am back with another installment for my capsule wardrobe/minimalist style. Since adopting this style almost a year ago, I had some hiccups along the way. I went shopping when I didn't need to and ended up with clothing I didn't wear. I also recently lost quite a bit of weight and some styles just did not suit me anymore. However, for Fall 2016, I have finally found the method for me.

It all started with a worksheet from minimalist blogger Caroline's website, Un-Fancy. I printed the worksheet out sometime earlier this year and was afraid...very afraid. I didn't want to stick to a certain number. 37 pieces? Are you kidding me? That seemed impossible. And even though I definitely have way over 37 pieces (67 to be exact), I plan on slowly pairing down my wardrobe by turning items backwards in my closet. The point is for me to get sufficient wear out of my clothing without grabbing pieces that won't work.

I did my worksheet by hand since I didn't want to ruin it. Below, you will see part one of a handwritten version of the Capsule Wardrobe Planner that Caroline created. You can find a link to the original worksheet on Caroline's blog. This will be a 7-part series what will conclude with the visual representation of my Fall 2016 Capsule Wardrobe.

LIFESTYLE: So, I live a pretty dull life, haha. I work an 8-hour schedule that requires pretty casual clothing Monday through Friday. My weekends usually consist of running errands like grocery shopping, laundry, prepping blog posts, and other random cleaning chores. Every now and then I do have events that require me dress up a little bit. For example, my best friend has a secret birthday weekend planned that may require a step up from my usual jeans and t-shirt combos.

WORD ASSOCIATION: This section allows me to figure what my style says about me. I have a feeling that this may eventually change over time, but for now, these words describe how I want to feel when I get dressed for any day. I love being a bit edgy, bold, sex, and stylish while still being minimal, classic, and casual. I drew this inspiration from celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Solange, June Ambrose, and Stacey London, as well as bloggers such as Barbara from The Persian Babe, Patricia Bright, Shirley B. Eniang, Anna of Vivianna Does Makeup, Karla Deras of Karla's Closet, Nadia Aboulhosn, and Kim of The Natural Fashionista.

Because there are 6 pages to this handwritten documents, I will be doing each page individually so that it's not an overload of information.

Check back tomorrow for Part 2! If you're on a minimalism or capsule wardrobe journey, share any advice you have.

Thanks for reading and I'll talk to you all soon!

Hello...is it me you're looking for?

Cue Lionel Richie song

After being in such a funk, I'm finally back! I'm in a much more positive place and I am finally happy. I've come to terms with the things I cannot change and am working towards the things I can.

To start that off, I've got a new video featuring a look into my closet. As you know, I've been trying to develop a minimalist wardrobe. What I realized is that minimalism does not mean zero color or only wearing certain things at certain times of the year. Minimalism is about loving the basics and having the most important things that matter to you. For me, I finally found the happy medium between the ease of wearing neutrals and the warm feeling I get from wearing bold prints and color. Everything I own finally can coordinate together!

This video is not the best quality (very vlog style) but it's a start right

Check out the video below!

Post Clean Out
(The Madness!)

I plan on approaching this from a plus size view. I don't know a lot of plus size minimalist bloggers and maybe I can be one of them.

Check back here soon for a look at how I am currently maintaining my minimalist wardrobe without repeating the same outfit.

Thanks for sticking with me through the dark ages. It's only going to get brighter from here!

Peace, Love, and Happiness!

Hey loves! Hope everyone is having a fantastic day/night (depending on when you read this). As I mentioned yesterday, I will be sharing my Summer Work Capsule Wardrobe. My off-duty wardrobe is still a work in progress. Hopefully I will have that finished soon. In the meantime, here's my Summer Work Capsule Wardrobe!

Jackets and Dresses

Tops

Bottoms

Shoes and Bags

Here are some changes I made from my Spring Work Capsule to my Summer Work Capsule:

1) I got rid of navy. I realized throughout the capsule that I really prefer black to navy. The level of heat I feel in both is the same, plus black is an all-year color. So, I have ditched my navy suiting. Along with the ditching of the navy suiting will be my navy shoes and bag.

2) I eliminated heels. I work on my feet all day long. As much as I would love to strut around like my co-workers through the store, I can't. My feet will start crying bunions and corns if I do it. So, I only included flats.

3) I had some items that are no longer wearable. My mint skirt ripped at the back zipper in two different places. What's funny is it was the one time I paid full price AND purchased an expensive top to go with it for Spring/Summer. So, with that said, I have ditched the skirt. I know I could potentially get it fixed, but I feel like there was a reason for it not to work. So, I am letting it go. I will keep the top though.

4) Other items just didn't fit right anymore. I've gained weight (I'm addressing the elephant in the room named Sarah's fat rolls) so some items I picked out for my capsule did not fit properly. My yellow ASOS suit, navy ankle pants, khaki ankle pants, white ASOS leather skirt, and beige Calvin Klein suit set were all placed in respective donate or sell piles.

5) No cardigans (what?!). I know I live in Florida and wearing a blazer everyday seems ridiculous. But honestly, cardigans look horrible on me. So, I have decided to eliminate them from my wardrobe (well, except my boyfriend ones. But those are for fall/winter). Being that I am bigger, I find tailored pieces with clean lines look better on me.

I will try to keep you updated on the looks I wear throughout the week. I plan on doing a weekly review (fingers crossed).

If you're living this capsule wardrobe lifestyle, what are some of your essential pieces for this summer? Leave a comment below.

Thanks for reading and until next time...

Sunday, May 31, 2015

Hey loves! So, as you know, I have been working on living a minimalist lifestyle. I am starting with my wardrobe selections. I have officially completed my Spring Capsule wardrobe and would like to share what I've learned from this capsule.

1) I do not need suits in every neutral available. This only gave an excuse to shop more than I needed to. So, for the next three capsules, I will only be using two suit sets: black and grey.

2) I rarely ever wore heels the entire time. I only attempted heels once which ended badly (my feet hurt like hell!). So, I am working on reducing my heel collection to pairs for multiple occasions (i.e. special events, vacations, and date night shoes).

3) I rarely ever wore my handbags. Because I work in retail, I have to wear a clear bag all the time. I spend 5/7 days a week at work so my nice designer handbags rarely get worn.

4) I only wore a few jewelry/accessory pieces. I wore 5 necklaces, three watches, and 5 pairs of earrings during all of spring. I feel as though I keep all of this jewelry but wear the same things.

5) I rarely wore any of my off-duty outfits. I have been in a funk and haven't gone out much. Therefore, my off-duty outfits rarely ever got worn. Meaning only a few items were worn.

I have picked out my work capsule wardrobe for summer already. I will be posting that tomorrow. I am currently putting outfits together from it so that it makes getting dressed easier.

Here's a few photos of outfits from my Spring capsule. I rarely have time to do photo shoots myself anymore so the easiest way to keep track of my fashion posts is through Instagram. Follow me there if you choose (thank you in advance).

Here's to successfully utilizing my capsule wardrobe! Let's see what this season's capsule will bring.

I will be having a sale of some of my designer pieces online so be on the lookout for that.

Peace, Love, and Happiness!

TIME TO RE-EVALUATE SOME THINGS HERE

I have nearly completed my first month within my first wardrobe capsule and I have to say, it's been interesting. I've also realized that the capsule wardrobe is too limiting on what I want to wear each month.

Hear me out...

I love wearing black, period. So, the idea of not wearing black for one-half of the year was not only depressing but idiotic on my part. Black and bold colors are perfect together! Why would I limit myself to only wearing navy and khaki as my neutrals for Spring/Summer? It's crazy!

So, I am in the process of re-working this whole capsule wardrobe concept to fit my personal lifestyle. In fact, I have decided to incorporate a couple concepts in order to help me towards my minimal lifestyle.

Here's how it's going to work:

ONE YEAR OF NO SHOPPING. NO CLOTHING, SHOES, AND ACCESSORIES SHOPPING.

That's right, I will not be shopping from now until April 26th, 2016. I am going to live off of my currently purged wardrobe for an entire year. I will be providing details on what's actually in my wardrobe by the end of next week.

This is going to be an epic journey. Being that I suffer from a shopping addiction and binge eating disorder, this is just the beginning to a long road towards recovery. This is something that I haven't really talked about but to sum it up, I have landed myself in quite a lot of debt from shopping and binge eating. I have been doing both because I do not want to deal with my weak emotional state head on. So, I have developed a plan that will help ease myself into rehabilitation and recovery.

This is the first step towards finding myself again. I want the real Sarah back, and if it means I have to go to extremes to do so, then I will.

If you are suffering from shopping addiction and/or binge eating disorder, look to these links for help:

Together, we can overcome the need to hide behind compulsive shopping and binge eating.

As always, I hope you are all doing well and thanks for stopping by.

This has been the hardest transition I have made since starting college. I have sold/donated about 70% of my clothes and I still have a ton of sh*t. This is ridiculous! So, to make this process easier, I have decided to start creating a capsule wardrobe of items in my closet that fit a color theme that I want for each season (three months). I sort of missed the first month of Spring, but better late than never right?

So below, you will find two different capsule wardrobes: a work capsule and an "off-duty" capsule. Because I do not intend to intermix the two wardrobes as I wear them, it will allow me to be super-critical of what I actually wear or want to wear for the season.

Spring Capsule Work Wardrobe: Jackets and Dresses

Spring Capsule Work Wardrobe: Tops

Spring Capsule Work Wardrobe: Bottoms

Spring Capsule Work Wardrobe: Shoes and Bags

Spring Capsule Off-Duty Wardrobe

Spring Off-Duty Capsule Wardrobe Pieces

Now, let me explain:

I decided to pick 8 colors/shades for my Spring capsule wardrobe: navy, khaki, white, coral, shades of green, turquoise, yellow, and denim. I chose these based on a Vince Camuto dress that I purchased about a month ago. I love the shades of coral, green, beige, and white in it. The turquoise was thrown in based on my love for the color during spring. Denim obviously only comes into play for my off-duty, but serve as a neutral along side navy, khaki, and white.

I know what you're thinking...why not black? Well, I love in Florida, and black in Florida heat is a no-no for me, no matter how light the fabric. Even though black is by far my favorite color to mix and match with, I am placing it aside to allow navy to be my dark neutral for spring and summer.

Using Polyvore, I created 40 (yes 40!) work appropriate outfits and 16 off-duty outfits that are inspired by items in my actual closet (so forgive me if the colors don't seem to coordinate...they do in real life). I have the app on my iPad so I will be using it as if I had the dream closet that Cher had in Clueless...except mine isn't electronic...yet!

Here's two outfit sets that I have already worn for this week. I plan on getting proper outfit photos when I get back in the habit of scheduling photo session times. For now, here's a peek at the inspired sets:

Monday, April 6th 2015

Now I know they have the StyleBook app where you can use actual photos of your items from your closet but I'm a firm believer in free apps so I will use my free alternative. I figure once my wardrobe has been scaled back about 50% more, then I will get the app. By then, it won't take me 10 years to photograph every item in my closet.

I will be posting a video blog on the process of re-organizing my closets and shoes. Until then, live free and minimal...with a twist of expensive splurging.

Peace, Love, and Happiness

*Blows dust off of website*

Geez it's been over as year since I've posted on here. The reasons are very stereotypical of most bloggers who just stop blogging (work, family, stress, busy life, etc.) but what I am about to do is going to change my life.

Minimalism.

I know you may be wondering exactly what it is? To sum it up, it's basically living on the most minimal necessities in life (clean eating, capsule wardrobe, modern technology, lack of unnecessary spending) in order to live a life full of clarity. In other words, getting rid of all your hoarded crap and only keeping what makes you your best you.

Now that you've stopped laughing at the idea that I, Sarah, could actually do this, I am here to tell you that I am going to try it. Here's why:

I am starting to hate fashion and shopping.

What has transpired in the past year or so is emotional shopping. I am by nature a shopaholic and have overcrowded my room with boxes from online shopping and bags from mall shopping. My closets (I have two room closets and a double sided garment rack) are filled to the max and my shoes barely fit in my room. I have done two major closet clean outs, leaving me with a total of 15+ bags full of a mixture of clothes with tags and clothes that were barely worn without tag. However, because I saw so much space in my closet, I shopped more and as a result have landed myself in a ton of debt and regret.

I don't even like shopping yet it has become a part of my day. Here's a glimpse of my days:

Workdays:
-Wake up
-Eat breakfast
-Go to work
-Shop on lunch break
-Work
-Go home
-Eat dinner
-Shop online

Off Days:
-Wake up
-Shop online
-Eat breakfast
-Shop online
-Eat lunch
-Shop online
-Eat dinner
-Shop online

For some people, it's drugs. For some, it's alcohol. For others, it's sex. But me, I am addicted to two things: sugar and shopping (the sugar addiction will be in a different post).

So, obviously, the shopping isn't the only problem. Because I have given myself too many options, I struggle to figure who I am style-wise. Of course, I'm obviously am classified as a hipster (by many college friends) yet I still identify with urban and classic styles. So, basically, my style reflects my mental health (saving that post for a later date as well). I don't know whether I am edgy, hipster, classic, modern, or urban/ratchet. I just am a mixture of it all. Hence why my closet looks like a department store exploded in it.

So, I started with the "turn the hanger backwards" approach, but it did not stop me from shopping.

I also did the "self-edit your closet and get rid of things" approach. Again, still went shopping.

So, why do I think minimalism will work for me? Because technically, I can still shop. I'll explain:

With minimalism, it isn't about never shopping again, it's about shopping smarter. For example, I am currently obsessed with the idea of owning every style I like in every color of the rainbow. However, it makes getting dressed for work a hassle. Really, it makes getting dressed in general a hassle.

Also, I have gained a lot of my weight back so now clothes/styles I like don't look great on me anymore. And because I come from a bloodline of hoarders, I can't let the items go. By not letting them go, it's blocking what I actually can wear.

So, I have decided to draft a minimal wardrobe plan that works for me and my lifestyle. I plan to use the following websites/YouTube channels/blogs to help me through this:

I have also created a Pinterest board with inspiration for creating my seasonal capsules.

I wanted to introduce the idea to you because this blog and Youtube channel will serve as a platform for minimalism for the curvy woman. I started my blog and channel to chronicle my personal style. This is a new chapter in a new book of my life. I hope to carry this minimalistic mentality through all areas of my life (well, except when I get married one day. That's going to be an extravaganza lol).

Until next time...

Peace, Love, and Happiness,
