Runway My Way: Vivienne Westwood Red Label Fall 2010 RTW

In celebration of my new Nikon DSLR camera arriving in the mail yesterday, I decided to open up a feature I have dreamed of doing. Now that I have a better camera, I feel that I can fulfill my dream. I have always been inspired by runway looks, but always wondered how I could apply them to real life situations. So, I am going to be doing a weekly feature called Runway My Way. Basically, I wil be recreating my favorite looks from each season's Ready To Wear collections with items from my own wardrobe. It will be a Friday feature and I hope everyone will like it. Today, as the premier post, I am recreating a look from Vivienne Westwood Red Label. I love how VW takes risks with fashion that some designers are afraid to take. I love that she fuses grunge with glam with preppy with everything in between. One look in particular spoke to me though.
I love how this fuses a great trend for fall, bright tights. I also love the earth-tone colors that compliment the bright tights. The metallic navy satchel adds the perfect pop of color without making a huge contrast. However, within recreating these looks, I also have to use some of my own flair with it. I love clashing bright colors with basic neutrals as well, so this is the inspiration board for the look:

And this is how the look turned out:
My Items:
Alloy Grey and Black Leopard Print Cropped Cardigan $10
Old Navy Men's White and Black Graphic Tee $10
Faith 21 Black Pencil Mini $15.80
We Love Colors Turquoise Plus Size Tights $9
Miss Me via Urbanog.com Black Patent Slingback Pumps $20
Charlotte Russe Purple Ruffled Ruched Tote $12
Random Brand Gold Chain $10
TOTAL OUTFIT: $86.80

The goal of this Friday feature is to show that you don't have to buy the designers clothes to get the concept of the outfit. I made the VW Red Label look my own by trying the mixed prints trend (graphic tee+ animal print) as well as keeping the colors within the same category (brights). I even added a bright lip because I felt it needed a little extra pop :) Keys to recreating the VW Red Label look are the following:

1) Keep the shaped similar but make sure they flatter your figure and your personal style: If you want to wear a cropped sweater, then do so. However, if you feel uncomfortable in one, you can go for a regular length and play up a slightly longer pencil skirt, to keep the balance the same.
2) Exact colors are not necessary, go with that you have: If you don't have a camel sweater or yellow tights, but you have a brown sweater and orange tights, then go for it! The point of recreating a runway look to real life is to go with what you already have, not buy a whole new outfit,
3) Stick with that's comfortable for you if you are weary of the bright colors: Not eveyone is comfortable in bright blue or yellow tights. However, warmer shades like burgundy or dark teal will give the same effect without being too loud. If warmer, richer tones are more comfortable for you, then go for it. Also, if you're not comfortable with the color being in the tights, place it somewhere else, like a bright purse or t-shirt. Don't force a look that you don't feel confident in,
