Trends I Love: Military

No comments:

I have been loving the military trend since Balmain made those amazing jackets for my dance idol Michael Jackson. Despite the fact that MJ has passed, the trend still lives on through other designers. The trend has also come into play with Balmain's leather cargo pants
So, I decided to come up with some looks inspired by the military/cargo trend.

1. Military Jacket
Alloy Red Military Blazer $45 ($47 for sizes 2x and 3x)/Forever 21 Black Sweetheart Dress $11.50/Go Jane Black Patent Floral Lace Bootie $30/Marc B at ASOS Black and Gold Snake Effect Oversized Clutch $28/ASOS Gold Short Statement Heavy Link Chain Necklace $20/TOTAL LOOK:$134.50

This is the perfect way to ring in the military trend. A great red shot of color works great against gold and black. The sweetheart dress and lace booties add feminine touches to the necklace and jacket. The bag is a classic piece to own as well.

2. Military Blouse
Forever 21 White and Bronze Military Woven Tunic $19.80/Moda Express Online Acid Wash Distressed Skinny Jeans $35/Go Jane Orange Swirled Snake Print Zip Back Sandals $21/Yes Style Tan Chain Detail Studded Tote $35/Girl Props 2 5/8" Gold Bamboo Hoop Earrings $8.99/TOTAL LOOK: $119.79

A nice military detailed top looks casual with a pair of deconstructed jeans and a chain-detail bag. Swirl detail sandals and bamboo hoop earrings give it a little glam appeal.

3. Cargo Pants
Wet Seal Olive Green Tank Top $10/Gap at ASOS Black Slouchy Cargo Trousers $59/Go Jane Black Strappy Braided Wedge $24/Fred Flare Black Equestrian Cross-Stitch Satchel $40/Forever 21 Black Wooden Cross Necklace $4.80/ASOS Black and Gold Mixed Printed Fabric and Metal Stacking Bangle Pack $27/ASOS Black and Gold "La Mode" Hip Belt $26/TOTAL LOOK: $190.80

Keeping the tones in olive and black allows for more play with accessories. Again, gold is the perfect compliment to olive and black.

And now for some plus size ensembles, because some trends should come in all sizes :)

1. Camoflauge and Cargo Pants
Faith 21 Olive/Tan Camoflauge Military Tank $14/Delias Khaki Trooper Skinny Twill Pants $40/Delias Black Camilla Boot $45/Forever 21 Black Reptile Embossed Shoulder Bag $30/Buckle BKE Black Striped Leather Cuff Bracelet $17/TOTAL LOOK: $146.00

A camo tank and skinny cargoes look great tucked into boots. A shoulder bag and leather cuff complete the bad ass military look. The pants go up to size 19!

2. Military Inspired Dress
Torrid Olive military Button Shoulder Ruched Side Dress $64/Forever 21 Black Trinity Peep Toe Booties $30/La Regale Beige Crochet Bead Clutch (from Lorisshoes.com) $32/Girl Props 1.75" Vintage 1980s Doorknocker Earrings $8.99/ASOS Gold Oversized Metal Shell Ring $17/TOTAL LOOK: $151.99

This sexy dress gets vamped up with black booties and gold/tan accessories. The Crochet beaded clutch is an unexpected piece for this dress, yet with the gold earrings and ring, compliment it very well.

3. Cargo Capris
Faith 21 Orange Layering Tank Top $3.50/Torrid Olive Amelia Cropped Pant $44/Miss Me (from Amazon) Beige Garnet 3 Open Toe Snake Gladiator Pump $40/Claudia Canova from ASOS Olive and Gold Heart Quilted Over Body Bag $42/FantasyJewelryBox.com Gold Suzanne's 36" Long Multi-Strand Necklace $47/TOTAL LOOK: $176.50

The cargoes make a comeback again in a cropped version, with the bright orange tank as a basic. The gold-detailed bag works great with the military feel of the ensemble (resembling the gold accents on uniforms) and looks glam with a multi-strand necklace and gladiator pumps.

Do you love the military/cargo trend? What are some of your favorite military-inspired pieces? Do you hate the military trend? If so, what do you dislike about it. Share your thoughts here!
