Runway My Way: Alexander McQueen S/S 2011 Ready To Wear

I'm back with Runway My Way, yay! Today's post is focusing on the very theatrical collection from Alexander McQueen. This is the first collection from Alexander "Lee" McQueen's successor, Sarah Burton. Burton made sure to keep many of the elements of classic McQueen, but at the same time added her own design twists. For example, the first look, with a traditional McQueen long coat, the edges were unfinished and it was softer than the usual coats seen from him.

This collection in total was definitely softer and feminine than we have seen from the McQueen house for some seasons now. It almost reminds me of how McQueen's spirit may have softened and ascended into heaven, even maybe like a rebirth. And one would think with such theatrical elements and stand out pieces, it would be hard to remake a runway look without looking awkward. However, the look I decided to use seemed to be the most translatable. Here, is look #12
And here is how my recreated look came out:

Wearing thrifted sequin shoulder pad top, Rainbow polyester full skirt, Red Circle buckle side peep toe booties, and Forever 21 mustard ankle socks.

I can't lie, I wanted this look to be a but more theatrical and outlandish. However, I would still wear something like this for a night out or a cool party. The ket here is confidence. If you feel confident in what you wear, recreating looks is so much easier. I love how the sequins sparkle with the shine of the skirt. The ankle socks really give it an added pop of color. I tried to make sure the silhouette and color palette were the same as the original McQueen look.

To recreate this look, here are some key items you would need:
1. An embellished, full skirted dress or embellished shirt and a full skirt with some sheen. Do this combination in a neutral shade, that way the details stand out more.
2. Color block heels or colorful socks with neutral heels. Make sure the shoes incorporate the neutral shade of the clothing and one pop of color. Or, if you feel adventurous, wear heels with many colors and black opaque tights.

This is a pretty simple look but still makes heads turns...in a good way :)

Here are some more of my favorite looks from the collection:
