Be You

 Dance like no one's watching
Sing like no one's listening
Write like no one's reading
Live like no one's judging
Stop being afraid of being too short or too tall
Too fat or too skinny
Too dark or too light
Too boring or too crazy
Let go of all of the heartbreak
All of the anger
All of the sadness
All of the fear
Stand up for what you believe in
Stand up for your rights
Stand up for your liberty
Stand up for your freedom to live
I am so sick of seeing people discriminate
So sick of people and their hate
So sick of people and their self-imposed power
So sick of people feeling that they call all of the shots in others lives
I cannot begin to think of raising my daughter in this world
A world where she's judged by her race
Judged by her skin color
Judged by her gender
I'm raising my child to feel empowered
Empowered by her intelligence
Empowered by her strength
Empowered by her love and faith
 The world is quickly changing
I don't know what will be the new standards for life tomorrow
I don't even know if I'm guaranteed tomorrow
But I know one thing: I'm living everyday to the fullest
I'm going to stop caring about if I'm too big and tall
If I'm too light and boring
I'm letting go of all the heartbreak, anger, sadness, and fear
I will stand up for what I believe in and fight for my rights, liberty, and freedom to live
I will educate my daughter on the world she lives in and the judgement she may face.
I will teach her to be proud of her intelligence, strength, faith, and ability to love.
Yes, I may not be guaranteed tomorrow
But I can make the changes each day that I am promised

About The Poem: I am all about living life to the fullest. I wish I could practice it more in my life and I admire those who live their life to the letter of that phrase. I worry so much about everything, it's literally making me sick. Sometimes, I write just to escape my own insecurities and almost write from the perspective of an alter ego. Does it make me crazy? Probably. But I am slowly feeling more comfortable about it.

About The Outfit: I have been craving bright colors for so long. I finally had some time to indulge in them. Work today was a lazy day so I didn't truly get to wear this look. This is actually from Spring Break. Due to the fact that this skirt is so short, unless i wear it with opaque tights, it's not work appropriate :( And with the weather getting warmer, I feel like these skirts will be saved for the cute free time days I have. I love the combo of coral pink and yellow. It's very summer fruit, don't you think? The Louis Vuitton bag, I found at Goodwill for $7 and it is authentic (I checked the code online). I took the strap off and have decided to rock it as a clutch (like my other pouchette). I don't really like the small strap, so I figured this is a better way for me to still wear it.

Hope everyone has a great Spring Break! Mines consisted of seeing Trey Songz live in concert, waving store bought undies to get his attention, and ALMOST getting his sweaty tank top, only to be defeated by some older (and much taller) fans. To say I am disappointed is an understatement, but I did get to take a picture with the tank top :)
Not too bad for my last Spring Break as a college undergrad.

Peace, Love, and Happiness!

  1. Haha! I love the picture with the tank top! You're so funny. Just to let you know, It's not crazy at all to write for therapeutic reasons in my belief! Sometimes I'll write letters if I am upset or concerned about something or someone. I'll seldom give them away, it's usually for my own benefit. When I do, like me and you sharing on our blogs, there is a powerful reaction whether 'commented' on or not!
I miss talking to you and I love you so much for always staying tuned on the bloggy! You are a great friend to have!
