Runway My Way: Alice & Olivia S/S 11 Ready To Wear

Yes, Runway My Way is still in effect! I still have some more shoots to do of other looks since I've been so busy. This week's Runway My Way look comes from Alice & Olivia. For Spring 2011, Stacy Bendet, designer for Alice & Olivia, definitely participated in the 70s trend, from high waistlines to handkerchief tops to flowy dresses. Bendet also participated in other retro trends such as mod (graphic prints, Peter Pan collars, and A-lines) and 50s (full skirts and pencil skirts). All in all, the collection is simply unique and very reminiscent of something Carrie Bradshaw would indulge herself in.

I pretty much fell for a few different looks, but Look 6 is the one I chose to recreate:

And this is how my recreation turned out:

Wearing a Croft & Barrows khaki trench coat, Wet Seal Plus black and white printed dress, Random Brand red patent belt, and GoJane royal blue faux suede platform pumps.

I wanted to make sure I kept the color scheme and silhouette the same. Besides the Alexander McQueen look, this is one of my favorite R.M.W. posts. I love that I was able to pretty much capture the look almost to a T. If you want to make a variation of this ensemble, here's an easy way to do it:

1. Neutral Trench Coat: Whether it's khaki, brown, cream, or beige, a neutral trench coat is a must not only for the look, but to have as a basic in your wardrobe. Nothing says classic like a neutral trench coat.

2. Graphic Prints: Here, the graphic print plays a roll as a romper in the original look and as a dress in my remake. However, you can easily recreate this look with a matching graphic top and bottom as well. As long as the body is graphic and simple (black and white is best), you can do no wrong (except for fit and cut).

3. Bright Shoes and Belt: Here, turquoise/royal blue and red were the color choices, but as long as you can find two contrasting bright colors, you are good. I know everyone swears by the color wheel, but quite frankly, life is too short to let a wheel determine what colors you want to put together. I try to live freely when it comes to my style so I am sorry if I offend those who don't.

Here are some more looks from the collection that I really liked.

Peace, Love, and Happiness!
