Sorry today's Runway My Way post is so late. Blogger was not working properly, which really messed up the flow of my day.
Today's look comes from Balenciaga. I adored how punk rocker chic the Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-To-Wear collection was. From the red and black leather to the spiky hair of the models to the lace up flats (reminiscent of Doc Marten's), this collection screamed punk girl gone glam.
There were many looks that I enjoyed, but one really stuck out to me as a mixture of androgyny, sexiness, and punk rock...Look 9.
Wearing a thrifted Sag Harbor red blazer, Attention by K-Mart white button front shirt, Ebay black leather high waist shorts, and thrifted Harley Davidson motorcycle/combat boots
My goal is always to make sure I don't go out and buy clothing for the looks. I try and recreate it with items I have in my wardrobe. I don't own red shorts at all, but I did have a red blazer and black leather shorts. So, I just reversed the items for my look. To recreate this look, you only need to follow some simple rules:
1. Wear one bright item. You can wear bright shorts like the original look or a bright jacket like in mine. The point is for either the jacket or shorts to be bright. However, if you don't have either one in a bright color, just make sure it is a contrasting color to the look. For example, if you have a bright shirt, wear a white jacket and black shorts, or vice versa. Try not to do both the jacket and shorts in black. That makes it more of a shorts suit, which is not what the look calls for.
2. Black shoes...period. Unless the shoes are the only bright item you have, keep them black. It adds more edge than a neutral shoe would. Also, boots are definitely perfect if you want to really emulate the runway look. But if you prefer heels, just make sure you add some sort of punky edge to still keep the look in the same theme.
3. Minimal to no jewelry and accessories is best. The only jewelry I would suggest would be stud earrings. If you need to add a punky edge and your outfit is lacking pizzazz, then I would suggest a punky accessory like a cuff bracelet, chains, or a cool belt. The point is to not go too glam or too punk rocker to the point where the real punk rockers feel like you are imitating them. I try to respect all lifestyles :)
